MIKE Silungan showed he is beginning to find his place in the Café France system, scoring 18 points, including 4-of-8 from three-point distance as the Bakers defeated Jumbo Plastic, 92-69, on Monday for their second consecutive win in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Silungan had failed to attend several practice sessions earlier in the tournament as he concentrated on schoolwork at the University of the Philippines but recently found the time to focus on training with the Bakers and the effort paid off.
The former Fruitas forward led five other Bakers who scored in double figures.
“Ang nangyari kasi kay Silungan, hindi siya nakakapag-practice dahil busy sa school,” said Café France coach Egay Macaraya.
“This is the only week na straight na siya sa practice. He is still gaining his form pero maganda ang pinakita niya.”
Mark Lopez and Jens Knuttel also took over in the late stages for the Bakers scoring 15 of the team’s 25 points in the final period while limiting the Linoleum Giants to only nine markers.
The Bakers improved to 2-1 win-loss joining Big Chill, Cebuana Lhuillier, and Blackwater Sports in third place going into the Holy Week break.
“The boys played well, at least may kumpiyansa na sila. I hope na magtuloy-tuloy kasi bakasyon na naman,” said Macaraya.
Lopez and Mike Parala chipped in 12 points while Knuttel added 11 markers.
The Linoleum Giants absorbed their second loss in a row for a 1-3 card.
