FRUITAS, still waiting for developments regarding their new reinforcements, got off to a winning start with mainstays Anjo Caram and Carlo Lastimosa leading the way in an 81-56 rout of league newcomer Jumbo Plastic on Tuesday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
The Shakers got 18 points from Caram including three 3-pointers, while Lastimosa added 16 points, five assists, and two steals.
Fruitas is hoping to acquire the services of Tamaraws RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo after sealing a pact with FEU, but apparently have yet to get the release papers from NLEX and Big Chill, respectively.
“It’s not about Fruitas, it’s not about FEU. It’s the team concept kasi mahirap dahil iba-iba ’yung pinanggalingan nila,” said Fruitas assistant coach Eric Gonzales, who took charge as head coach Nash Racela had a previous commitment.
“We are built to last, hindi ito pang-isang game. Gusto ko ’yung laro namin, may exclamation point,” he added.
FEU center Russel Escoto had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Shakers.
Fruitas led from the start to finish, building a 29-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Shakers grabbed a 61-34 advantage after allowing Jumbo Plastic only nine points in the third period
