RR GARCIA and Terrence Romeo are staying put with their mother teams in the PBA D-League on the condition that they will not be seeing action against Fruitas, a team that has a school tie-up with their UAAP squad Far Eastern University.
FEU and Fruitas head coach Nash Racela said this agreement has been reached after the ballclub failed to tab the two prized Tamaraws guards for the Foundation Cup, which the team is also using in preparation for the coming UAAP campaign.
Racela explained that the Tamaraws and the Shakers are practicing at the same time with Garcia and Romeo also joining. The guard duo is attending those practices despite also playing for Fruitas’ competitors NLEX and Big Chill, respectively, in the PBA D-League.
“They will be unfair to Fruitas because they technically practice with us everyday,” Racela explained.
When pressed for comment, head coaches Boyet Fernandez of NLEX and Robert Sison of Big Chill, however, disagreed that such an agreement was made.
“The agreement is for RR to play for FEU and all the games of FEU at the Filoil,” Fernandez said. “Fruitas is not FEU. So RR has to play for NLEX.”
Sison said: “There is no such agreement like that.”
With the issue far from settled, Big Chill is set to face Fruitas on April 11 at the Ynares Sports Arena.
“I would recommend that they just focus on the game and not spread rumors like that,” said Sison, who mentioned a previous rumor that Big Chill has released Romeo for Fruitas, which turned out to be false.
Racela said that part of the said agreement is that Garcia and Romeo will prioritize their commitments with FEU.
“Meaning, FEU practice over D-League practice. FEU game over D-League game,” Racela said.
