ROI Sumang scored 20 points, delivering eight in overtime, as Tanduay Light ended its four-game skid with a 77-73 win over Wangs Basketball on Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Sumang completed a three-point play with 30.6 seconds left in the extra period to save the Rhum Masters, who lost a nine-point lead in regulation.
The Rhum Masters led, 65-56, but went scoreless in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter before recovering in extra minutes to improve their record to 2-4.
“Ganun talaga. Nangyari na ang hindi dapat mangyari. Kailangang mahirapan at dumaan sa butas ng karayom,” said Tanduay Light coach Lawrence Chongson.
“’Yung character ng team, kailangang patigasin pa,” he added.
Wangs fought back, with Jefferson Morillo hitting timely baskets and Mark Montuano splitting his two free throws with 5.3 seconds left in the fourth, 65-65.
Wangs Basketball was ahead, 71-69, before Sumang took over. The University of the East star made two free throws before the three-point play off that made 74-71.
Gab Banal had 20 points and Jumbo Escueta chipped in 15 markers for the Rhum Masters, who survived a 10-of-23 three-point shooting outing by Wangs.
John Michael Ferrer had 15 points, and Macky Acosta finished with 13 while combining for seven triples as Wangs dropped to a 2-3 slate.
