CAFÉ France held Cagayan Gerry’s without a field goal in the last three minutes to score an 86-80 win on Monday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Bakers outscored the Rising Suns, 11-2, to overhaul a 14-point deficit and register their second win in three games.
Aaron Jeruta scored just nine points for the Rising Suns but drained a three-pointer that broke a 78-78 tie with 1:22 left in the fourth on their way to the victory.
Rodrigue Ebondo had 18 points and 16 rebounds, while Samboy De Leon added 17 for the Bakers, who trailed 66-52 at the end of the third period.
Café France coach Egay Macaraya said the two-week break affected their play, but he was pleased to the Bakers play solid in a tough situation.
“’Yung long layoff namin, parang hindi na marunong maglaro ng basketball yung team ko. Na-overcome naman namin and they showed character,” Macaraya said.
“Mas maganda na ’yung humahabol kesa lumalamang kami ng 20 tapos natatalo kami,” Macaraya added, referring to their loss to Cebuana Lhuillier on opening day that saw them squander a 21-point lead.
Jam Cortes had 15 markers while Maverick Ahanmisi chipped in 13 points, eight in the fourth, for Café France,
Andrian Celada finished with 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting for threes while Don Trollano added 12 for the Rising Suns, who lost for the second game in a row for a 1-2 card.
