ROBBY Celiz is taking on the role as team captain of Zark’s Burgers, confident he has what it takes to be the leader of the newest squad in the PBA D-League.
Celiz signed up with Zark’s just months removed from his stint with Alab Pilipinas in the Asean Basketball League. He believes the gains he got from playing in the ABL will translate into an even better showing in a leadership role for the Jawbreakers.
“Sobrang magandang exposure ‘yun, tapos tumaas ‘yung confidence ko. Salamat kay coach Mac (Cuan) at nabigyan ako ng chance,” said Celiz, who once scored 23 points this season for Alab in the ABL.
Thanks to the ABL experience, Celiz is expected to have a bigger role with Zark’s this coming PBA D-League Foundation Cup conference being one of the veterans in the new team.
As one of the leaders of the team, Celiz said it will still need a team effort from the Zark’s squad in order for the Jawbreakers to be a competitive bunch.
“Dito, ibang storya naman kasi ako ‘yung inaasahan. Hopefully, maganda ‘yung ipakita ko,” said the 28-year-old forward.
“Sabi lang ni coach, maging leader lang ako at maging vocal. It’s not about me, it’s about the team. We represent Zark’s, so it’s a team effort,” said Celiz.
Celiz will be joined in the squad by former college standouts Joseph Nalos, Clark Bautista, RR De Leon, James Mangahas, and Jam Sheriff. RJ Argamino, Job Cariaga, Jerome Ferrer, Mark Jeruena, Chris Cayabyab, and Zyron Cudal round out the team.
Zark’s has been preparing for the next conference for at least a week, losing to Flying V in a recent tune-up. But with more practices in the coming days, Celiz is confident Zark’s will come around.
“Nangangapa pa pero kasama sa trabaho ‘yun. Ilang practice pa, okay na siguro kaming lahat,” said Celiz.
