RENZO Subido opted to take his talent to the PBA D-League instead of playing for University of Santo Tomas in the coming UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament.
Subido issued a statement through his handler Hype Sports saying he will dedicate his time to improve on his game in the D-League, where he will likely suit up for AMA as he has been training with the Titans in their buildup for the Foundation Cup.
“After much reflection, I have decided to sit out this year of college basketball. I have spent the last few weeks reassessing my performance during my first three years in the UAAP and I’ve arrived at the conclusion that I am not satisfied with how I’ve played,” he said.
“I want to dedicate the next months finding ways to improve my skills through the PBA D-League in order to return a stronger and better player,” Subidi added.
Despite his absence, the 5-foot-9 Subido is confident UST will remain a formidable squad in the coming preseason tournaments as well as in the UAAP season.
“I’m sure that the team will do really well in the Filoil tournament and the upcoming UAAP season. I am surely going to root for the boys and I’m confident they can get a lot of wins,” said Subido.
The veteran point guard out of La Salle Zobel averaged 6.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists for the Tigers last season.
