IAN Sangalang is relieved that a tug of war for his services has been settled amicably and is now looking forward to his debut on Tuesday with rookie D-League ballclub EA Regen Med Group.
Sangalang, last conference’s Best Player awardee, was released unconditionally by the NLEX Road Warriors on Wednesday, paving the way for his stint with a team owned by his longtime patron Dennis Pineda.
Sangalang’s move was formalized through a memo from the PBA Commissioner’s Office on Thursday.
"Basta ni-release ako ng maayos, nakapag-usap sila (NLEX management and Mayor Pineda) ng maayos, okay na ako, masaya na ako," he said.
The 6-7 center out of San Sebastian played in all four title campaigns of NLEX in the developmental league and still has a live contract with the team that runs until July.
NLEX team manager Ronald Dulatre explained the move was a sacrifice made by the team to maintain a good relationship with the group of Pineda, who manages several marquee players suiting up for the different teams owned by Manny V. Pangilinan.
Now he is set to lead Pineda's team when it makes its league debut against Hogs Breath Cafe on Tuesday.
"Ok lang. I'm happy kahit saan ako maglaro, ilalaro ko yung laro ko," he said.
The Lubao, Pampanga native is set to reunite with former San Sebastian teammates Michael Miranda, Dexter Maiquez, Michael Juico, Jonathan Semira, and Jimbo Aquino.
