CIGNAL big man Raymar Jose was named PBA D-League Foundation Cup MVP on Thursday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.
Jose is in Kuala Lumpur on international duty for Gilas Pilipinas in the Southeast Asian Games, but his performance for the Hawkeyes in the eliminations and semifinals earned him the top individual award.
The 6-foot-5 slotman led coach Boyet Fernandez’s wards with 12.3 points and 10.2 rebounds in 12 games.
He led the Hawkeyes to a second place finish in the elimination round and a sweep of Marinerong Pilipino in the penultimate stage before leaving for Kuala Lumpur with Gilas Pilipinas.
Cignal is n ow looking to complete the run to the title, battling Centro Escolar University in the finals.
Jose bested teammate Jason Perkins as well as Flying V’s Jeron Teng, the early individual stats leader. The former La Salle star led Flying V to an elimination-round sweep but the Thunder failed to get past the Scorpions in the semifinals.
Perkins, meanwhile, had to sit out some of their games early in the conference due to academic commitments.
