RACAL-KERAMIX coach Caloy Garcia said the team will do everything in its capacity to convince Jason Perkins to suit up in the PBA D-League after making the La Salle player the top pick in Tuesday's rookie draft.

While the Fil-Am player applied for the developmental league's draft, he still has the option to play one more season with the Green Archers in the UAAP.

Garcia said making Perkins the No. 1 overall pick is the first step in obtaining his services. although he admitted the move is a big “gamble” since La Salle players traditionally do not see action in the D-League while still eligible to play in college.

“Whatever happens, we will make him sign within seven days. At least, we got his rights. Whatever happens after that, it’s a gamble,” said Garcia.

“I think in his case kasi, it’s more of ‘yung bata, gusto ring mag-PBA and the only way to do it is (through) the D-League,” said Garcia.

The lead deputy of Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao, Garcia said obtaining Perkins will be a boost for Racal-Keramix, which has always lacked in quality big men.

“He can shoot from the outside. He is an intelligent player and he can post up,” said Garcia. “I think ‘yung strength niya, ‘yun ang kulang namin. Last year, we had a good run but we didn’t have anybody to go to at the post,” he said.

“We now have post threats so probably we will be a better team this year.”
