CAGAYAN Valley relied on John Pinto’s second half efforts to beat Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, 82-78, on Monday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Pinto scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half, with nine markers coming in the fourth period as the Rising Suns overcame a nine-point halftime lead.
The Rising Suns outscored the Giants, 26-17, in the final period to come away with their seventh win in nine games.
“We played bad in the first half because the guys tend to lose their composure everytime Jumbo plays physical,” said Cagayan Valley coach Alvin Pua. “So during the halftime break I told them to just keep their composure and stick to our game plan.”
“We’ll just try to win as many games as we can,” Pua said.
Adrian Celada had 17 points including five triples while Michael Mabulac tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Rising Suns.
Jumbo Plastic failed to keep control after leading 43-34 lead at halftime, absorbing its second loss in seven outings.
