MIKE Tolomia and Mac Belo set the pace for Phoenix as the Accelerators defeated CafeFrance, 91-83, on Thursday to inch closer to sealing a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis of the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the JCSGO gym in Quezon City.
Tolomia had 28 points, while Belo added 21 for Phoenix, which ended its elimination round with a 9-3 win-loss slate with CafeFrance in third with an 8-3 record.
Racal sits in first place with a 9-2 record but is already assured of the No. 1 spot in the semifinals.
Phoenix, however, hopes that Racal wins over AMA in the final game day of the eliminations on Tuesday in order to secure the second-seed in the semifinals, as a triple tie will drop the Accelerators to third.
The Accelerators outscored the Bakers, 39-25, in the third to post a big 80-61 lead entering the fourth period, but only won by eight points.
“The most important thing is not the win but how we play together offensively and defensively. Pasalamat na lang ako na during ‘yung run nung Cafe France sa dulo, na-regain nila yung composure nila,” said Phoenix coach Eric Gonzales.
Rodrigue Ebondo had 21 points for the Bakers.
