Jan Colina gets new marching order from Phoenix after eight-month military training

    Jul 20, 2016

D-LEAGUE Foundation Cup leader Phoenix has signed Jan Colina to add veteran presence to its team as the ballclub enters the crucial stretch of the conference.

The former Adamson standout is returning to basketball after an eight-month training with the Philippine Army. He played for Jumbo Plastic in the D-League in 2014.

Colina said he is expected by head coach Eric Gonzales to provide leadership to the Accelerators squad featuring the core of last year’s Far Eastern University championship team in the UAAP.

“Tagal din akong nawala sa basketball. Sabi ni coach Eric, kailangan madala mo rin mga teammates mo dahil isa rin ako sa mga medyo beterano,” said the 27-year-old Colina, who also thanked FEU coach Nash Racela for making his comeback happen.

Phoenix holds a 7-1 win-loss record and faces second-running CafeFrance (6-1) on Thursday.

“Deep ’yung bench. ’Yung mga teammates ko, may championship experience din,” said Colina.

Colina has also joined the coaching staff of the high school team of Chiang Kai Shek College under head coach Goldwin Monteverde.

“Assistant coach ako ni Coach Goldwin. Kakapasok ko lang din. Masaya naman na makakatulong sa mga bata,” said Colina.
