PETRON-Letran caught fire in the fourth quarter to keep McDavid winless, 89-64, and cruise to its second straight win in PBA D-League Aspirants Group on Monday at Paco Arena.
As McDavid threatened for a comeback with a strong third quarter surge led by Dahrell Caranguian ending the period with just a six-point deficit, 60-54, the Knights unleashed a blistering 26-7 run capped by a triple from Allen Mina for a 86-61 spread with 2:24 to play and buried another with 41.5 seconds left for the biggest lead of the game, 89-63, to cap the fourth quarter blow out.
Jeo Ambohot led the way for Petron-Letran with 17 points scoring seven-of-eight from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. Jerrick Balanza chipped in 12 points four assists and two steals, while Larry Muyang was perfect four-of-four from the field adding 11 markers laced up with six assists and three rebounds as the Knights won back-to-back games improving to 2-1 win-loss record tied with Che’Lu at No.4 spot.
"Actually it's a good win for a young team against a veteran team," said coach Bonnie Tan. "Again, we're here to learn and to get experience sa mga ganitong laro."
Petron-Letran nearly squandered a 17-point lead late in the second quarter, as Caranguian scored 13 of his 15 points in the third quarter to lead McDavid’s rally that cut down the deficit to four, 56-52, with Jan Colina scoring off a post move in the 1:47 mark of the frame.
But the Knights recovered right away with a 10-0 run to open the fourth quarter with a 70-54 spread with 7:52 on the clock.
"Medyo nagrelax eh, but we'll be learning from this kind of games," Tan added
Caranguian was the lone bright spot for McDavid with 15 points as they remained winless in three games.
