IT is only two days before the deadline for confirmation of teams’ participation in the D-League Aspirants Cup, and the PBA says “there will be no grace period.”
Several companies have expressed intention, but only three have given confirmation, of joining the seson-opening tournamenr set to start October 27.
Café France, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, and Racal Motorsales Corporation have been confirmed.
According to a media release by the PBA, the Manny Pacquiao-backed Kia Motors is one of the teams the league is awaiting confirmation along with Cebuana Lhuillier and Boracay Rum.
Kia Motors and Blackwater are the two expansion teams in the PBA.
“A lot of companies have called us up and expressed their intention to join. We would like to remind them that the deadline for submission of their letter of intent is July 30,” said PBA Commissioner Chito Salud in a statement.
“There will be no grace period. Teams that are able to meet the deadline and pay the tournament fee on Sept. 1 will make it to the list of participants for the Aspirants’ Cup,” salud added.
Meanwhile, the PBA D-League rookie draft is slated on September 16.
Fil-foreigners who wish to join the rookie draft have until August 22 to file their applications. Local-born players have until August 28 to submit their papers.
School-based teams must submit the list of their rookie players on or before September 4 to determine their drafting order.
