ALVIN Pasaol took charge late as Petron-Letran dealt Ironcon-University of Santo Tomas its first defeat in the 2019 PBA D-League with a 114-101 victory on Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The UE super scorer bullied his way to eight of the Knights' last 14 points as they got back to their winning ways and improved to 4-2 win-loss in the tough Aspirants Group.
Pasaol finished with 27 points and eight rebounds in the win as he almost single-handedly towed Petron-Letran from a 98-all deadlock with 3:12 remaining.
His heroics salvaged the 34-point, nine-rebound, and two-steal performance from Jerrick Balanza.
Jeremiah Taladua added 13 points and four rebounds off the bench, King Caralipio chipped in 11 points, four boards, and two assists, and Renato Ular nabbed a double-double with his 11 points and 11 rebounds for Petron-Letran.
"Sabi nga namin before the game, we joined this league to beat this kind of teams, lalo na yung mga wala pang talo. At least this game, naipakita nila na kaya nila mag-bounce back," said coach Bonnie Tan, who is glad with how his team responded from its 83-64 defeat to Cignal-Ateneo last week.
Beninese forward Soulemane Chabi Yo led the Growling Tigers' balanced attack with 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.
Brent Paraiso chimed in 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists, as Marvin Lee got 15 points and 10 boards.
Unfortunately, their efforts weren't enough as the rebranded Ironcon-UST suffered its first defeat in five outings to fall to 4-1 in the group.
