DENICE Villamor buried a three-pointer with one second left as a Ray Parks-less National University-Banco De Oro pulled off an 83-81 come-from-behind victory over Wangs Basketball on Monday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the JCSGO gym in Quezon City.
Glenn Khobuntin found Villamor wide open for a triple from the right wing for the marginal basket as the Bulldogs came back from a seven-point deficit in the final two minutes.
NU-BDO won without Parks, who sprained his ankle in the Bulldogs’ match against Hog’s Breath last week.
“We are trying a new system that everyone can contribute,” said NU assistant coach Joey Guanio, who is calling the shots with head coach Eric Altamirano still in the United States for a recruitment trip for NU.
NU-BDO won for only the second time in nine outings.
The Bulldogs were down, 72-79, with 2:05 left in the fourth quarter when they put on a 9-2 tear to finish the game.
Joshua Alolino, who topscored for the Bulldogs with 15 points, actually hit a triple with eight seconds left to pull to within one point, 79-80. But Macky Acosta only converted one free throw with 6.9 ticks remaining for Wangs for an 81-79 lead.
NU-BDO executed a perfect play for the game-winning shot with Cedrick Labing-isa burying a technical free throw for an excessive timeout called by Wangs, 83-81.
Khobuntin had 14 points and 11 rebeounds, while Villamor also had a double-double effort of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Wangs dropped to 4-8 win-loss.
