TECHNOLOGICAL Institute of the Philippines blasted McDavid-La Salle Araneta, 108-81, for a rousing debut in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at Paco Arena in Manila.
The Engineers wasted no time in leaving the Stallions behind, using a 13-3 run to break from a deadlock at 11, taking a 24-14 lead before exploding for 36 points in the second frame to grab a 60-30 lead at the half.
Senegalese big man Papa Ndiaye powered TIP with 26 points, including 12 in the second period, along with eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
Bryan Santos added 18 points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Ivan Santos had 17 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a block, as Christian Daguro chimed in 10 markers and three dimes.
TIP led by as many as 40 points, 78-38, after an Ivan Santos bucket with 4:44 remaining in the third frame.
"I think we're just lucky that yung kalaban is as not as prepared. We're lucky that we were more prepared," said coach Potit De Vera. "But I don't think we will be able to do this if we will be playing against more experienced teams."
Nigeria’s Henry Iloka was the lone bright spot for newcomer Stallions with 37 points and 23 rebounds.
