JOSE Rizal University scored a thrilling 104-103 win over Go for Gold on Tuesday for its second straight win in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The Heavy Bombers also spoiled the return of TY Tang, who came out of retirement and now serves as Go for Gold’s playing assistant coach.
It was back-and-forth in the final stretch, with the Scratchers even taking a 103-102 lead with 16.6 to go on Tang’s two free throws.
Paolo Pontejos showed composure and drained a layup before JRU forced Tang to take an awkward three-point heave that hit only the board as time expired.
MJ Dela Virgen also hit crucial baskets in the fourth period, including back-to-back three-pointers that sparked a 9-0 run and made it 99-90.
Dela Virgen finished with 28 points, making six three-pointers to go with three rebounds, five assists and two steals.
