NATIONAL University-BDO claimed its first victory in three games, beating AMA Online Education, 93-87, on Tuesday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
Matt Salem scored 16 points, pulled down even rebounds and made three assists, while JJay Alejandro finished with 14 points for NU.
Alfred Aroga, the team’s Cameroonian center who missed the Bulldogs’ game against Café France, returned to pumping in a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
With the game tied at 77, Aroga and Salem led a 7-2 run to pull away. Alejandro also converted a crucial lay-up for an 88-82 NU lead with 1:24 left in the fourth.
NU coach Eric Altamirano was glad to have a full complement of players for the match.
“I think we are getting used to the D-League type of play. Nakaka-adjust na sila sa brand of game,” said Altamirano.
Rashawn McCarthy had 21 points and 10 rebounds for AMA, which remained winless in three games.
