NORBERT Torres’ PBA D-League debut will come sooner rather than later.
The former De La Salle staring center was reduced into a mere spectator sitting behind the Cebuana Lhuillier bench when the Gems opened their campaign in the Aspirants Cup on Monday against Racal Motors.
According to Gems coach Boycie Zamar, the Canadian-born forward was barred from playing after failing to submit documents proving that his parents are both Filipinos.
But the waiting will soon be over as Cebuana Lhuillier coach Boycie Zamar said the Canadian-born forward out of La Salle is expected to suit up soon as he already submitted additional documents to prove his parents are both Filipinos.
Zamar, however, said Torres has already submitted additional documents and he expects his pick from the last D-League draft to be cleared for the Gems' November 3 game against Jumbo Plastic.
“Pinag-susubmit siya ng birth certificate ng parents niya. Wala ‘yung sa nanay niya, hindi umabot. Pero na-submit na niya. Hopefully, sa next game, makapaglaro na siya,” said Zamar.
Torres is expected to boost the Gems’ frontline that already has ex-pro Magi Sison and San Sebastian Stag Bradwyn Guinto, who posted 18 points and 14 rebounds against Racal Motors.
In the D-League, Torres is set to go up against La Salle teammates Arnold Van Opstal (Hapee), and Yutien Andrada (Café France).
However, Torres will be reunited with Green Archer Almond Vosotros with the Gems.
