NO deal has yet been reached in Boracay Rum’s first attempt to sign celebrated top pick Chris Banchero as the rookie guard is reportedly asking for a compromise as far as his stint with the team in the PBA D-League is concerned.

A source told Spin.ph Banchero is asking for a leeway from Boracay Rum to allow him to play in the coming fifth season of the Asean Basketball League (ABL) while under contract with the franchise owned by Lucio Tan

Marvin Espiritu, who represents the 6-foot-1 Fil-Italian didn’t deny their supposed bargaining plan.

“May mga window time kasi yung ABL season, because he wants to maximize his income para sa food, bahay niya, family, everything. Yung gastos niya kasi, cost of living, mabawi lang sana,” he added.

Hindi kakayanin,” added the son of popular player-agent Danny Espiritu.

Under D-League rules, the maximum allowable contract a player can get is within the range of P30,000 only, an amount that is reportedly just a quarter of what a player can receive playing in the ABL.

“So we are trying to find a compromise, on how Chris can play in the D-League so that he can compensate his expenses,” said Espiritu. Pero we’re still open (for negotiations). Exploratory pa rin kami with Boracay Rum.”

Boracay Rum coach Lawrence Chongson bared the team is willing to give Banchero extra perks such as transportation and housing allowance.

“Hindi pa kami nagkakasundo. Pero I am sure may patutunguhan kami. Work in progress. Walang ayawan. Sabi naman niya di siya aayaw. Yun nga lang may numero ng kontrata,” said Chongson.

“Little things lang yun. Sa tingin ko naman maayos yun,” said the fiery mentor, who however, disclosed he is not solve to the idea of letting Banchero play in both the ABL and D-League at the same time.

The Boracay Rum coach said he understands the situation of Banchero especially now that his girlfriend Justine is about six months pregnant.

October 24 kami magsisimula. August next year, drafting nasa PBA. Tiis siya kaunti, pero in time, makakabawai din siya financially,” added the long haired coach.

Kundi, next year magdi-D-league pa rin siya,” he added.

Chongson admonished Banchero to sacrifice now and reap the benefits in the near future.

“Alam ko naman sitwasyon nila. Ang tagal ko na dyan. I don’t blame them. They want to get as much as they can. Walang mali dun, hot item siya eh,” he added.

Boracay Rum management and Banchero’s side are set to meet again on Sunday for a second round of negotiations.
