NLEX is aching to get back to a familiar place, on top of the league with the crown, as the Road Warriors and begin battle against Big Chill in the Aspirants Cup finals on Sunday.
Game One is set 1 p.m. Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum and will be shown on a delayed basis on Aksyon TV 41.
D-League champions four times, NLEX is motivated to get back after being stopped by Blackwater in the Foundation Cup finals last season.
“It was a very tough one of the whole team,” said NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez about their loss to Blackwater Sports.
“This conference is a motivation for us,” said Fernandez, who is eyeing his fifth title in six conferences.
The star-studded Road Warriors beat Hog’s Breath Café in the semifinal round via sweep to arrange a return trip to the finals.
The NLEX coach, however, doesn’t see their series against Big Chill as easy with both teams gaining automatic semifinal berths during the elimination round.
“It will be a tough series. Big Chill has been playing well this conference. They are a dangerous team,” said Fernandez.
NLEX swept Big Chill two years ago for its third title but this conference’s Superchargers are a totally different, more balanced team.
“They are more complete in every position and it is hard to match up against them. Our defense will be the key in this series,” said Fernandez.
Big Chill lost to the Road Warriors in the 2012 Aspirants Cup.
