RENZO Subido had a fine game for Marinerong Pilipino in his first outing in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

The University of Santo Tomas guard finished with 20 points, including 15 in the second half, as the Skippers defeated Zark’s-Lyceum, 94-92, on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The 21-year-old Subido, however, played down his performance in his first game.

“Siguro it was a good game but there were a lot of lapses that I can improve on. For me, playing earlier, I just trusted the system and my teammates,” said Subido, who will return with the UST Tigers next season.

Subido played for Marinerong Pilipino last conference, and has been practicing with the Skippers since November for the Aspirants Cup. The UST point guard added, however, that it was still a challenge for Marinerong Pilipino to form a cohesive unit despite the early preparation, mainly due to the players coming from different schools and club teams.

Marinero’s stint in the Sinulog Cup in Cebu where the Skippers won the tournament helped a lot in the team for the Aspirants Cup as far as chemistry is concerned, according to Subido.

“Actually, at first, it was hard kasi you can see, we were just four returnees from last conference and a lot of players are new. Eventually, we just came from Cebu. We gained a lot of experience especially with our chemistry,” he said.
