Hapee uses suffocating defense to clobber Wangs and keep slate unblemished

HAPEE limited Wangs Basketball to just two points in the second quarter en route to a 65-43 victory in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

“We made the necessary stops in the second quarter and that made the difference,” said Hapee coach Ronnie Magsanoc.

“Wangs is a shooting team once you stop the three that’s it. The team did a lot of effort.”

The Fresh Fighters are unbeaten in six games, while Wangs suffered its fourth loss in six outings.

Garvo Lanete scored 15 points for Hapee, while NCAA Most Valuable Player Earl Scottie Thompson added and former UAAP MVP Rayray Parks had 11 apiece.

The Fresh Fighters used an 11-1 run capped by Lanete’s back-to-back triples to post a 27-piont lead in the fourth period, 62-35.

“Wangs came out with a lot of effort, magandang test ’yun para sa amin,” added Magsanoc. “Everybody on our team should be ready to play.”

Macky Acosta was the lone player to finish in double figures for Wangs, scoring 15.
