Repeat-seeking Phoenix, Blustar spice up title race in PBA D-League
Fil-foreigner Matthew Wright will be bringing his act to the PBA D-League.

PHOENIX Petroleum tries to make it two titles in a row, while Blustar Detergent brings in Asean Basketball League (ABL) stars Matthew Wright and Jason Brickman for the PBA D-League Foundation Cup which is set to open on June 2.

The Accelerators and the Dragons will be two of the seven teams seeing action in the coming conference, joining CafeFrance, Racal Tile Masters, Tanduay Rhum Makers, AMA Online Education, and the Mindanao Aguilas.

Phoenix will be gunning for a second consecutive crown after capturing the Aspirants Cup title in five games against CaféFrance in the finals.

Blustar, meantime, will be bringing in the core of the Westports Malaysia Dragons side which won the 2015-2016 ABL title. The Dragons, coached by Ariel Vanguardia, will be led by Wright and Brickman, who made waves in the recently-concluded ABL season.

Wright captured the Best Asean import while Brickman copped the Finals MVP after the Malaysia Dragons beat the Singapore Slingers in the finals.

The eliminations will now be a double-round format with the top four advancing to the semifinals. The top two will have a twice-to-beat advantage.

The finals will be a best-of-three.
