TANDUAY Light extended its winning run to three with a 70-59 victory over Racal Motors on Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Aljon Mariano scored 12 of his 21 points in the first quarter as the Rhum Masters surged to an early 20-6 lead. Tanduay Light scored the first five points in the second period, and the result of the game was never in doubt after that.

The victory cemented the Rhum Masters’ hold of sixth place with a 4-4 win-loss slate before the holiday break but Tanduay Light coach Lawrence Chongson is still far from satisfied, noting that they got the win streak going against teams in the bottom half of the standings.

Chongson also said they treated the game as if it was a do-or-die since the sixth placer will get the final spot in the playoffs at the end of the eliminations.

“Konti pa,” Chongson said. “Sabi ko nga, matalo kami ngayon, malamang wala na kami. Hindi na maganda Pasko mo, wala ka nang pag-asa sa Bagong Taon.

“No offense to Racal, Wangs, and MP Hotel, pero hindi sila ’yung Hapee, Cagayan, Cebuana,” Chongson added.

Racal Motors suffered their fifth loss in seven games.
