Cebuana Lhuillier holds off AMA University in OT to preserve unblemished slate

MOALA Tautuaa scored 30 points and hauled down 19 rebounds, Simon Enciso hit clutch baskets in overtime, and Cebuana Lhuillier escaped with a 97-90 win over AMA University in Thursday to stay unbeaten in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Gems won their sixth game to assure them of at least a playoff for a quarterfinal berth, although they needed five extra minutes to secure the victory.

Tautuaa and Enciso lifted the Gems in overtime, with the former hitting the second of back-to-back baskets with 39.8 seconds left. Tautuaa hit four critical free throws in the end to settle the final score.

“We can’t underestimate any team. That’s not the way to do it,” a relieved Cebuana Lhuillier head coach Boycie Zamar said.

Paul Zamar had 18 points for the Gems.

Almond Vosotros scored 12 points and Norbert Torres had 10 in their last game before leaving to join the Gilas cadets in the 2015 Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship next week in Singapore.

AMA trailed by as many as 11 points but was able to tie the game at 80 in regulation on a Jerramy King lay-up with 10 seconds to play. The Titans last tasted the lead, 90-89, before Enciso’s heroics.

The Titans joined Hapee and Jumbo Plastic Linoleum in the middle of the pack with a 2-3 win-loss mark.

Dexter Maiquez had 22 points including 10 in the fourth quarter.
