MARINERONG Pilipino opened its 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup campaign in style, trouncing AMA Online Education with a 95-83 win in the curtain-raiser on Monday at Ynares Sports Arena.

Seen as a preseason favorite, the Skippers matched those expectations as their 31-point second quarter explosion put them ahead, 49-30 at the half, before extending the lead to as much as 21 numerous times in the third quarter.

Jorey Napoles pumped 25 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks to lead the charge for Marinerong Pilipino.

Trevis Jackson provided support with his 13 points, three boards, and three assists, while Franky Jackson also contributed 13 for the Skippers, who are carrying a core made up of the TIP Engineers this conference.

“Hindi na masyado nahirapan yung players mag-adjust. They know each other and although they are young, what we have is a solid team,” said coach Koy Banal of his rejigged crew.

It was a dominant show of force for Marinerong Pilipino as it seized control of the boards, 73-43, including 31 offensive rebounds which translated to 30 second-chance points.

Irvin Palencia paced the Titans with 18 points, six assists, and three rebounds, as top draft pick Owen Graham amassed a double-double of 11 points and 13 boards in his D-League debut.
