MARINERONG Pilipino overwhelmed Che’Lu Bar and Grill-San Sebastian, 82-67, on Tuesday at the Pasig Sports Center to clinch an outright semifinal berth in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

The Skippers took an 18-2 lead and extended it to 33 points.

Abu Tratter had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Mike Ayonayon had 15 points as Marinerong Pilipino improved its record to 9-2 to take at least the second seed in the playoffs.

Marinero has won eight straight games and can still claim the No. 1 spot if Akari-Adamson (8-2) loses to Jose Rizal University in the last playing date of the eliminations on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The top two teams at the end of the elimination round will get automatic berths in the semifinals.

“It’s always nice to go to the playoffs with the bang and on a winning note. Sana hindi kami mapaso and we will just keep on rolling as we always tell ourselves,” said Marinerong Pilipino coach Koy Banal.

Che’Lu Bar fell to 7-4, joining Zark’s-Lyceum in fourth place but the Revellers are already assured of the fourth seed in the quarterfinals regardless of the result of the match between Gamboa Coffee-St. Clare (6-4) and AMA (1-9) on Thursday.
