LEO Avenido has been named the playing coach of Gamboa Coffee Lovers, becoming the first to hold the capacity in the PBA D-League.

Based on the lineups released by the league on Monday, Avenido is the Gamboa head coach and is also part of the 14-man lineup of the expansion team for the Foundation Cup that opens on Thursday.

Avenido, a former PBA player who won MVP honors in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) while playing for San Miguel Beer in 2012, last suited up in Thailand before returning to the PBA D-League.

Gamboa opens hostilities against fellow D-League newcomer Zark's Burgers Jawbreakers at 3 p.m. at the Ynares Sports Arena.
