JRU Bombers halt eight-game skid, send AMA Titans to fifth straight loss

JOSE Rizal University ended its losing streak at eight, and sent AMA Online Education to its fifth straight loss, 98-87, on Monday in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Kris Porter had 21 points, six rebounds and two assists for the Heavy Bombers, who carved out win No. 2 in nine games.

John Grospe, Paolo Pontejos and Jeckster Apinan each scored 17 markers for JRU.

AMA trimmed an 11-point deficit to seven after Carlos Escalambre's three-pointer with 7:21 remaining in the final period.

But JRU responded quickly, with Paolo Pontejos nailing a jumper and a three-pointer that made it 91-76. 

The Titans suffered their eighth loss in nine games.

"Ang bright side na lang e kahit papano may nakukuha kami dito sa liga na to. Yun naman yung importante samin," said JRU coach Gio Lasquety.

Robbie Manalang scored 26 and Escalambre had 21 points for the Titans.
