Huge second-half rally gets Caida past National U-BDO in PBA D-League

CAIDA Tile defeated BDO-National University, 89-68, on Monday at the Filoil Flying V Arena to formally claim the second-seeding in the quarterfinal round of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

Philip Paniamogan and Billy Ray Robles doing most of the damage in the third quarter when the Tile Master took control.

Robles scored all of his 11 points in the third, while Paniamogan scored six of his 12 in the same stretch. Caida went on a 17-0 run bridging the third and fourth periods to take a 67-47 lead.

The Tile Master improved their mark to 7-1 to tie Café France but got the No. 2 seed due to its loss to the Bakers in the eliminations.

Jonathan Grey scored 20 points, while Roider Cabrera chipped in 12 for Caida, which will have a twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals against seventh seed AMA.

“We played good in the second half. We started hitting our shots so it allowed everybody to get their confidence going to the next round,” said Caida coach Caloy Garcia.

BDO ended up in sixth with a 2-6 card and will face third seed Phoenix Petroleum.

The quarterfinals begin on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig with top seed Café France taking on No. 8 Wangs at 2 p.m.  followed by the battle between fourth-seed QRS-JAM Liner against fifth-place Tanduay at 4 p.m.
