NU stars JJay Alejandro, Matt Salem tapped to boost St. Benilde squad in PBA D-League

JJAY Alejandro and Matt Salem are set to bolster the line-up of Go for Gold – College of St. Benilde squad in the upcoming PBA D-League season set this January.

The two National University stars will be joining a team composed mainly of the Blazers core led by foreign big man Clement Leutcheu and rising locals Edward Dixon, Kendrix Belgica and JJ Domingo.

Salem believes that the squad can help him work on his craft and says he likes what he sees from the youthful coaching staff led by TY Tang.

“There are a couple of reasons, some are, they have a good coaching staff. They have a good culture meaning their work ethic ... they work hard,” said Salem.

“I though they can help improve more of a player to be able to play the three and four position. Jay (Alejandro) and I always talked after Season 79 to continue playing on the same team,” he added.

Salem went through an up and down season for the Bulldogs this year as he finished with averages of 8.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists before succumbing to dengue to close out his UAAP career.

Alejandro on the other hand enjoyed his best year as a Bulldog with 17.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.3 steals for coach Jamike Jarin.

St. Benilde placed eighth in the NCAA Season 93 with a 4-14 record.
