Batangas boosts quarterfinal bid, eliminates Racal from Foundation Cup

BATANGAS inched closer to the quarterfinals after ousting Racal, 95-90, in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. 

Jessie Saitanan shot five three-pointers and finished with team-high 19 points for Batangas, which improved to 5-3.

Japs Bautista added 18 markers including key baskets down the stretch and the split from the foul line that sealed the match, while Cedrick Ablaza had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Cedric De Joya chipped in 10 points for Batangas, now just a win away from its first quarterfinals appearance.

"I'm very thankful kay God for helping us sustain this game," said Batangas coach Eric Gonzales.

Racal fell to a 3-5 card and will miss the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2015 Foundation Cup.

Paolo Pontejos scored a game-high 29 points for Racal.

Jamil Ortuoste added 10 markers.
