Jeff Viernes returns to play for Che’lu-San Sebastian in D-League quarters after Thailand stint
Former PBA player Jeff Viernes is back in the developmental league.

JEFF Viernes returns to the PBA D-League as he suits up for Che’Lu Bar and Grill in the Aspirants Cup quarterfinals which begins on Tuesday at the Pasig Sports Center.

Viernes is coming off a stint in the Thailand basketball league.

The Revellers, the No. 4 seeds, hold a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals against Gamboa Coffee-St. Clare.

Viernes returns to the local scene after being dropped by Phoenix last year for playing in a ‘ligang labas.’

Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare coach Jino Manansala is aware of what Viernes can bring to the Revellers, having coached him during St. Clare’s campaign in the PBA D-League. Viernes is also a St. Clare alumnus.

“Basa ko na ‘yun kasi former player nila si Jeff sa Jumbo,” said Manansala, referring to Viernes’ time with Jumbo Plastic in the PBA D-League and PCBL under head coach Steve Tiu.

Tiu is the current coach of Che’Lu san Sebastian.

Viernes is a boost for the Revellers squad that earlier lost Michael Calisaan to injury.

“Nagdagdag sila ng player. Nagdagdag sila ng another scorer. Kailangan ko lang i-prepare ng mabuti ang team. Pag-aaralan ko mabuti para mabigyan ko sila ng magandang laban kahit twice-to-beat sila,” said Manansala.
