MARINERONG Pilipino continued to sail as the Skippers downed Tanduay, 65-64, on Tuesday to advance to the PBA D-League Foundation Cup semifinals at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Skippers gained steam in the fourth period, staging a furious 12-0 rally that saw them claim the lead, 58-56, with six minutes and 24 seconds left.

Both teams traded baskets after that, with Marinerong Pilipino gaining the lead on Robbie Herndon's putback with two minutes remaining.

After a few scoreless possessions, Achie Inigo had a chance to give the Skippers some more breathing room but botched a running shot with a little over 10 ticks to go. 

Fortunately for the Skippers, Herndon grabbed the offensive board and Marinerong Pilipino milked the clock on the way to their seventh straight victory.

Marinerong Pilipino will face Cignal in the penultimate stage on Thursday. 

"Doubt was setting in dun sa start ng fourth quarter," Marinerong Pilipino coach Koy Banal admitted after the match.

"I'm thankful na nagkaron ng wisdom yung players nung last possession na yun."  

Herndon led the team's balanced attack with 13 points to go with 13 rebounds and two steals while turning the ball over only once.

Renzo Subido added 11 markers, all in the fourth period where the Skippers turned things around after being down by as much as 12 points, while John Lopez had 10.

Jerwin Gaco paced Tanduay with 17 points, while Lester Alvarez chipped in 11.
