Chongson hopeful Kevin Ferrer rediscovers deadly form in Tanduay vs Racal rubber match

TANDUAY coach Lawrence Chongson remains optimistic the Rhum Masters will complete the sweep of Racal when the two teams meet again in the semifinals of the PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Tuesday.

Chongson came out confident of their chances last Thursday, saying the Rhum Masters are at their best with their backs against the wall, after Tanduay beat Racal behind Gelo Alolino's 26 points to force the rubber match.

The decider is set at 6 p.m. at the Strike Gym in Bacoor, Cavite, and Chongson hopes his wards will get the job done the way they did Thursday.

"Going into Tuesday's game, ganun pa rin mindset namin," he said Monday.

The veteran tactician also made special mention of Kevin Ferrer, who needs to be in his usual deadly form next game when it matters most for the team.

In their win against Racal, the former UST star shot an atrocious 2-of-11 from the three-point area. But he managed to contribute 13 markers, including some crucial baskets down the stretch.

"Kevin Ferrer will only be Kevin Ferrer if he can carry us to the finals, if not the championship," said the vocal tactician, adding it's still team effort that will help them pull through.

Meanwhile, Racal coach Caloy Garcia warned his players not to let their guards down again after wasting a twice-to-beat incentive.

Garcia also pointed out that they need to address the team's porous defense, which spelled doom for the Tile Masters last Thursday, if they hope to advance to the finals.

"On the offensive side, okay naman kami e. Ang problema talaga namin depensa," said Garcia.

"Kung ganito lalaruin namin on Tuesday, it's gonna be hard for us to win. We can’t relax against them," he added.

Phoenix and Cafe France also dispute the other finals slot at 4 p.m.
