League-leader Cignal-San Beda looks to keep win run going in clash with giant-slayer JRU

CIGNAL-San Beda hope to stay atop the team standings as the Hawkeyes put their six-game win streak at stake when they take on Jose Rizal University in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup on Thursday.

The match starts at 5 p.m. at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, following the clash between Wangs (2-5) and also-ran Blustar Detergent (0-6).

"Hopefully, we'll not stop here and continue to improve," said Cignal coach Boyet Fernandez in the aftermath of an 83-68 win over Victoria Sports-MLQU on Tuesday to grab a superior 6-1 win-loss record.

But Fernandez said it won't be an easy task, especially if they're facing a dangerous JRU side coached by Vergel Meneses.

"We know what we can do, so we have to really be ready for whatever they will throw at us," said Fernandez, whose team is already assured of a quarterfinals berth.

Meneses shared a similar sentiment even after his team pulled the rug from under then No. 1 team Racal.

The PBA legend said he hopes his team led by Tey Teodoro and Paolo Pontejos will pull off the same feat against the Hawkeyes.

"Bago man yung team, beterano na rin si coach Boyet. Ilang beses na nag-champion yan sa D-League kaya sila talaga ang paborito dito. Dapat lang na paghandaan namin sila," he said after the rousing 77-75 conquest of the Tile Masters.
