J-JAY Alejandro hit the crucial baskets in overtime as Go for Gold survived Centro Escolar University, 91-89, in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Alejandro uncorked two-three-pointers in the extra period, the last one giving the Scratchers a 90-87 lead with two minutes and 14 seconds remaining.

Patrick Aquino hit a jumper as CEU pulled to within a whisker, 89-90. But the Scratchers hung tough for their third victory against the same number of defeats.

Justin Gutang led Go for Gold with 20 points, but it was JK Casiño who stood the tallest in the final minute of the fourth quarter, hitting a triple and a last-gasp layup that sent the match into overtime, 84-all.

Alejandro finished with nine points.

Rod Ebondo was his usual explosive self, dropping 34 points, but that was not enough and CEU absorbed its first loss in five matches.

Orlan Wamar had 14 points, but settled for being a passer when the going got tough.

Wamar found an open Aquino in the waning seconds for a jumper that moved CEU to within one but that proved to be the team's last field goal.
