San Beda eliminates Victoria Sports, takes top spot in Aspirants Cup

CIGNAL-San Beda shifted into high gear only in the final minutes to dispose of Victoria Sports-MLQU, 83-68, on Tuesday in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

Already assured of a quarterfinals berth, Cignal grabbed the top spot with a 6-1 win-loss record while eliminating Victoria Sports, which reeled to a 1-6 card.

Leading by just five, 70-65, the Hawkeyes used a 12-3 run to break away.

"Right now we're happy about it. Our first goal is to make the quarterfinals," said Cignal coach Boyet Fernandez. "Hopefully we won't stop here and continue to improve."

Byron Villarias and Pamboy Raymundo sparked a 12-3 rally for an 82-68 lead.

Jason Perkins has 16 points and 11 rebounds, Andres Cahilig scored 13, Robert Bolick had 12 points and Villarias finished with 10 markers.

Aris Dionisio had 12 points for Victoria Sports but wound up scoreless in the final quarter.
