JEFF Viernes continues to make an impact on Che’Lu Bar and Grill-San Sebastian even as he’s no longer with the team after getting a PBA comeback through GlobalPort.

Following his stint in the Thailand professional league, Viernes returned to the Philippines via the PBA D-League where he helped Che’Lu reach the Aspirants Cup finals.

His short stint with the Revellers didn’t go unnoticed as he was signed up by the Batang Pier just before Che’Lu-SSC faced off with Zark’s-Lyceum for the D-League title.

Samboy De Leon, however, shared Viernes’ presence in the Revellers' practice gives the team some added boost.

“Nandoon pa rin siya, pumupunta sa practice, siguro bago pumunta siya sa practice ng PBA,” said De Leon, who led Che’Lu draw first blood in the best-of-three title series against Zark’s. “Tinutulungan pa rin niya kami. Pinapalakas niya kumpiyansa namin lalo na ‘yung mga bata.”

De Leon hit a big three late in the game that broke a 101-101 tie to finish with a team-high 18 points in a 107-103 win by the Revellers.

Game Two is set on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City where De Leon and the rest of the Revellers looking to sweep the championship series.

De Leon said they will have to bring the same mindset of stepping up in the absence of Viernes.

“Siguro kasi ang mindset namin, kailangan namin mag-step up lahat kasi wala na ‘yung point guard namin si Jeff. Nakapag-contribute naman kami kaya nakuha namin ‘yung panalo,” said De Leon.

“Leader siya ng team. Pagpasok niya, maganda ‘yung naging resulta. Kailangan namin mag-move on. Kailangan kami mag-focus sa championship. Kung sino ang piyesa ni coach, step-up lang,” he added.
