BREADSTORY-Lyceum is trying to make a positive out of the negative in its campaign in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

Head coach Bonnie Tan said he’s trying to motivate the Pirates by reminding them of the comments made by others on the team about how it is not capable of making the quarterfinals of the season-opening tournament.

The remarks obviously worked wonders on Breadstory, which won four of its last five outings, including a huge 79-72 upset of third seed Café France on Thursday that forged a winner-take-all match for one of two remaining berths in the semifinals.

“May mga challenges kami na pinarinig sa kanila dahil marami kaming naririnig na wala raw kaming chance na makapasok sa quarterfinals,” said Tan moments after the Pirates’ quarterfinal win over the Bakers.

Tan didn’t elaborate on what exactly are the negative feedbacks being hurled against Breadstory, but hinted it may have been uttered during one of the television broadcasts of the Pirates’ games.

“2-5 ata kami nun. Café France din ‘yung kalaban namin nung time na ‘yun. Pinanood ko nga kagabi, ‘yun pa rin ‘yung sinusumbong sa akin ng mga players na parang dina-down na kami. Naka-save nga ‘yung comment sa amin,” said Tan, who is in his final games as head coach of Lyceum.

“Sa amin na lang ‘yun,” Tan said, when pressed to elaborate.

The Pirates’ late surge in the elimination round allowed them to gain the last remaining ticket in the quarterfinals.

And even though they are just one win away from making the semifinals, Tan said the Pirates  are still on a nothing-to-lose attitude in their rubber match with the Bakers set on Monday at the San Juan Arena.

“Veteran team ‘yung Café France. They can adjust and win games kaya sila number three. Kami naman, no one expected us in the quarterfinals. Adjust kami ng konti. Binigay na ‘yung isa. Siguro 50-50 pa rin ‘yung chance namin sa next game namin,” said Tan.
