WANGS Basketball-Letran defeated Perpetual Help, 88-83, on Thursday to post back-to-back victories in the PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Rey Publico led the Couriers with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go with five rebounds.

Bong Quinto had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals, while JP Calvo added 12 markers.

Christian Fajarito and Jerrick Galanza scored 10 points each, while Bonbon Batiller had eight points.

The two teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle in the final stretch, with Prince Eze sinking a hook shot as the Altas moved to within a whisker, 83-84, with 37 seconds remaining.

Bonbon Batiller retaliated in the ensuing play to give the Couriers a three-point lead, before Bong Quinto hit a pair of free throws to bury their foes for good.

With a 4-2 record, the Couriers join Marinerong Pilipino and Akari-Adamson in second spot behind Centro Escolar University (4-1).

Wangs Basketball-Letran coach Jeff Napa, though, expressed dissatisfaction, saying he wants to see more effort from his wards against tougher teams.

"Actually, hindi pa ito ang gusto namin na tinatakbo ng team dahil talaga namang ang sama ng nilalaro pa rin namin. Pero panalo, a win is a win," he said.

"Pero hindi dapat kami maging ganito kapag may mabibigat na kalaban at baka hindi maging pabor samin. Kaya kailangan namin mag-double extra effort para at least maging convincing win ang mangyari samin."

Despite huge efforts from Edgar Charcos and Prince Eze, Perpetual's misery continued as the Altas lost two games in a row for a 2-4 tally.

Charcos registered a game-high 29 points, going 12 for 17, and also had seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Eze posted a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds.
