AMA University flashed a strong finishing kick to hold off Wang’s Basketball, 97-90, and finally get on the winning track in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The Titans saw a 19-point bubble almost burst, but finally proved steady down the stretch to notch their first victory after starting the conference with four straight defeats.

AMA also dealt the Couriers their fifth loss in six games as their victims took their place at the bottom of the nine-team standings.

“Na-sustain namin yung laro namin sa endgame,” Titans coach Mark Herrera said. “Sana tuloy-tuloy na.”

Jammer Jamito anchored the Titans down low, posting 24 points, 18 boards, and three blocks as the former St. Clare stalwart kept his team afloat in the payoff period, while University of the East forward Ronie de Leon added 22 markers and five rebounds.

Jerramy King facilitated the offense with aplomb as the Filipino-American playmaker flirted with a triple-double of 12 points, 14 assists, and nine boards on top of two steals in 31 minutes.

The Titans established a 64-45 cushion in the third quarter, but saw the Couriers make a comeback.

Former Emilio Aguinaldo playmaker John Tayongtong led the Couriers’ late run, scoring all but two of his 16 points in the final frame, including two from the free throw line that nudged his team to within five, 93-88.

But Jamito had an answer for every basket in the fourth, where he scored 10 of his output as the Couriers came no closer than five points.
