NLEX team consultant Allan Gregorio said the group of Manny V. Pangilinan plans to put up a new team in the PBA D-League under a different company and hopes to continue the winning tradition of the NLEX Road Warriors.
“I think the MVP group is trying to figure out which team can replace the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA D-League,” said Gregorio.
NLEX has bought the Air21 franchise in the PBA.
“I heard its going to be either Indofood or Philex na puwede or maaring pumalit,” said Gregorio.
Pangilinan sits as the president commissioner of the P.T. Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk, the largest food manufacturer in Indonesia. He is also the chairman of Philex Mining.
The MVP group’s plan to stay in the D-League has opened the doors for the San Beda Red Lions to continue participating in the developmental league. Several Red Lions play in the D-League under a school tie-up with NLEX.
The Road Warriors won six titles in seven D-League conferences.
PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial said six teams have expressed intent to join the coming Aspirants Cup set to open in October.
