MOALA Tautuaa has signed up for the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems for the PBA D-League Foundation Cup.
Cebuana Lhuillier consultant Bong Ramos on Thursday confirmed to Spin.ph that Tautuaa will be joining the Gems after a stint with the Cagayan Valley Rising Suns in the Foundation Cup where he led the team to the finals.
"Welcome to the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems family @Tautuaa33," wrote the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems on their official Twitter account @CLGems.
The move of Tautuaa, who was picked first by Cagayan Valley in last year’s rookie draft, came after the Fil-Tongan's one-conference contract with the Rising Suns recently expired.
As expected, a lot of teams showed interest in Tautuaa at the end of his stint with the Rising Suns, including Aspirants Cup champion Hapee Toothpaste, sources said.
The athletic big man, a potential top pick in this year’s PBA Rookie Draft, is a Gem of a catch for a Cebuana side that made it to the semifinals of the Aspirants Cup but bowed to Cagayan Valley in the best-of-three series that went the full route.
Tautuaa, however, could not lead Cagayan Valley to the Aspirants Cup title, the team losing to Hapee via sweep in the title series last month.
The Foundation Cup will open on March 12.
