PHOENIX Petroleum-Far Eastern University defeated BDO-National University, 92-72, at The Arena in San Juan on Tuesday to advance to the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.
The Accelerators arranged a semifinal showdown with Caida Tile, which eliminated AMA.
Mike Tolomia and Achie Inigo had 11 points each in the second period when the third-seed Accelerators outscored the Bulldogs, 30-13. Tolomia finished with 19 points and Inigo wound up with 15.
“From the start, ang pep talk namin is we need to play consistent basketball kasi ’yun ang challenge ng team na ’to,” said Phoenix coach Eric Gonzales.
“Kahit kanina, kahit malaki ang lamang, nagkakanya-kanya defensively and offensively. ’Yun talaga ang greatest challenge lalo na kapag lamang kami.”
Six players scored in double figures for the Accelerators, with RR Pogoy scoring 12, Raymar Jose 11, and Russel Escoto and Ed Daquioag chipping in with 10 markers each. Mac Belo scored 8 and had a team-high 12 rebounds.
Alfred Aroga had 21 points and15 rebounds for the Bulldogs in their final game of the conference.
Tanduay takes on QRS-JAM Liner in the lone quarterfinal match on Thursday, 3 p.m. at the Ynares Sports Arena, with the winner taking on CafeFrance in the semifinals.
The Rhum Masters, the fifth-seed in the playoffs, forced a decider with a 68-66 win over the Maroons last week.
