METROPAC-San Beda crawled its way back from eight points down in the fourth quarter to stun upset-seeking SMDC-NU, 94-86, Thursday in the 2019 PBA D-League at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Donald Tankoua dropped 10 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, on top of his 14 rebounds to rescue the Movers after falling behind, 80-72 with 7:24 to play.
The Cameroonian big man anchored Metropac-San Beda's killer 20-2 finishing kick to erect a 92-82 lead with 1:57 to play and secure the big victory.
"It's really our defense that stepped up in the last seven minutes. I kept on challenging our boys that we won't win this game against NU if we won't play defense. So we just got back to basics, yung pressure sa depensa, yun ang ibinalik namin," said coach Boyet Fernandez.
The veterans came off the bench and once again stepped up to the plate, with Calvin Oftana adding 18 points and eight rebounds, and Clint Doliguez firing 16 points, five assists, three boards, and three steals.
James Canlas and Peter Alfaro also scored 11 points apiece for the Movers, which won their third straight to rise to 5-1 in the Foundation Group.
Dave Ildefonso pumped 30 points and five rebounds, as John Lloyd Clemente got 11 points and five boards in the losing cause for the Bulldogs.
Senegalese center Issa Gaye hauled down 26 rebounds, on top of nine points and five blocks, but his efforts once again went down the drain as SMDC-NU remained winless through five games.
