MER Ayaay’s buzzer-beater lifted Zark’s-Lyceum to a 108-106 overtime victory on Tuesday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Pasig Sports Center.
Ayaay finished with 10 points after being on a receiving end of an extra pass from Ralph Tansingco underneath to score an unmolested short stab to beat the buzzer.
The Jawbreakers rose to 7-4 and will finish in either fifth or sixth spot in the playoffs. They need to win twice to advance into the semifinals.
Tansingco had 19 points, while Mike Nzeusseu had 16 points and 16 rebounds for the Jawbreakers.
Perpetual Help trailed by as many as 16 points but forced overtime after Prince Eze picked up a miss by Ray Peralta at the buzzer to tie the game at 95. The Altas, however, got a dose of their own medicine in overtime.
“The more minutes we play, it’s going to make us better. We know that teams will zone us. The good thing for us it’s making us play the zone better. Playing five more minutes is better for us,” said Zark’s-LPU coach Topex Robinson.
Zark’s spoiled Eze’s 30-point, 22-rebound effort for the Altas, who finished their Aspirants Cup campaign with a 3-8 record. Peralta also added 26 points for the Las Pinas-based cagers.
